QUESTION 1 : What are Specialty Plates? |

ANSWER : Specialty Plates are license plates manufactured especially for the customer by the State of Ohio. The Ohio equine license plate will have a logo that requires special manufacturing to produce. Logo plates allow customers to support organizations such as universities, sports organizations, conservation groups or special interest groups such as Horse Power Ohio. |

QUESTION 2 : What if I have a current plate whose registration hasn’t expired? |

ANSWER : You may still purchase a specialty plate by paying a prorated fee based on the amount of time left on your current registration. |

QUESTION 3: Are there special fees? |
|
ANSWER : An additional fee is charged to cover the costs of manufacturing and handling the specialty plate and for money earmarked for the sponsoring organization. HORSEPOWER OHIO charges $25.00. The fee is charged each year when registering your vehicle even if validation stickers only are needed. Of this amount, Horse Power Ohio will receive $15.00. This will continue to fund the grant. |

QUESTION 4 : I already have personalized plates. Can I transfer my current plate to an Equine Specialty Plate? |

ANSWER : Yes, as long as your personalized plate has no more than 6 characters, you can order your personalized plate with the equine logo. |

QUESTION 5 : Can I get specialty plates on a leased vehicle? |

ANSWER : Yes, you can make arrangements with your leasing company when leasing your car. If you are already leasing, contact your leasing company for a power of attorney to submit with your registration renewal forms. |

QUESTION 6 : How long will it take to get my plates? |
|
ANSWER : If a deputy registrar submits your application for specialty plates, you can expect to receive your plates in 7 to 10 days. If the plates are ordered by mail, you can expect delivery in 2-3 weeks. |

QUESTION 7: Can you purchase these specialty plates for trucks and horse trailers? |

ANSWER : Yes, the equine specialty license plate can be purchased for any non-commercial truck and for horse trailers. |
